What is My Style of Care?

Do I adjust, crack, pop, or manipulate  joints?

I hear this question quite a bit.   My usual response:  Yes, but not very much.  I like to see what the body will do when its parts are communicating properly.  Most of the time all that is needed is a light touch in a very specific spot.
We see that as the body-mind gathers more information on its exact position in space, this body-mind will refine its movement pattern.  As the body's movement pattern is refined, stress and tension levels reduce.  My method of body analysis is called Network Spinal Analysis, please see below for more information on this system.

With whom and what conditions do I work?

My gentle approach has worked on kids and adults in all stages of health.  We've seen improvement in
  • back and body pain
  • shoulder problems
  • headaches
  • hip, leg, knee, and ankle conditions
  • dealing with cancer
  • depression, stress and anxiety
  • ADHD
  • auto accidents
  • TMJ problems

I regularly co-treat and refer to acupuncturists, other chiropractors, massage therapists, physical therapists, podiatrists, medical doctors, psychologists, yoga instructors, and skilled healers of various disciplines.

Here's a link to the Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) website, an approach to care, balance, and wellness which I have found to be a very powerful catalyst for transformation, healing, tension release and pain free living.

My draw to this work is reaffirmed every day,  again and again, as I get to be present as people move not just out of pain but into sensations not felt since childhood--if ever...

VISION

I am a board certified Chiropractor who combines hands-on treatment with "hands-off" metabolic and lifestyle assessment to facilitate healing in the body.

I see health as a relaxed, energetic, enthusiastic, centered, empowered view of yourself in relationship to your life.  You hear yourself using these descriptions of your own state of being as you move into a dynamic balance between many contributing forces:

All of these factors act to dissipate everyday life stresses and tension that otherwise accumulate in your system.

These accumulated stresses sap your energy, attack your immune system, cause symptoms, syndromes, and "conditions."

A Picture of Chiropractic Care in General...

As chiropractors, we're licensed as primary care physicians in the state of Oregon.  This means we are responsible for diagnosing, managing, co-treating, and/or referring to an appropriate provider, any "condition" or disease state with which you may present to our clinic.

The manual work that we're known for--the bone "adjusting"--is actually a small component of our scope of practice.  Our four year graduate training involves not only the mechanics of joints, but starts building upon our undergraduate pre-med training with a solid foundation in gross- micro- and neuro-anatomy, physiology, histology, biochemistry, neurology; then moves into more real world applications: clinical nutrition,  radiology, blood and laboratory science, pharmacology, soft tissue healing modalities, various "adjusting" technique systems, and physical rehabilitation.

How do we diagnose?  It depends on your problem or complaint.  We utilize any of the following approaches to further our knowledge of who you are and what exactly is going on...

What I Ask of You
From the beginning of care, you are asked to increase your awareness of specific aspects of your self and experience:

  • Your body's responses to specific contacts.
  • Changes in your muscle and general sensations during the session and between visits.
  • Ease (or lack thereof) in movement.
  • Changes in breathing during and between visits.
  • Changes in your posture.
  • Regions of perceived tension.
